The Stockholm archipelago is undoubtedly the most fragmented geographic area in Europe. A jigsaw puzzle of 30,000 islands, each offering a welcome. To fly over the archipelago is to accept an invitation to twist and turn, to slip into tortuous passes to discover whatever travels, circulates and sails between the isles of this Nordic paradise.
We meet children whose journey to school is a mini-cruise, a woman farmer whose land is spread across six islands as well as the competitors in one of the most difficult amphibian races in the world. You can go anywhere, protected by a Swedish law: “Everyman’s right” to access Nature. We learn that in this corner of the planet, it is not the level of the sea that is rising but that of the land. Welcome to these emerging islands.
