Mount Saint Valentin, at 4,000 metres the highest mountain in Patagonia, is mythical to Chileans. It is not very high, but it's difficult to access and is swept by the constant storms that hit this land at the end of the world. It was here that scientists decided to drill and remove a hitherto untouched ice core ice that is filled with information for studying past climates and providing data for today's models. These are the models that tell us about climate change.
For two years, French and Chilean glaciologists battled with the elements and with twists of fate, in order to extract precious ice samples one by one. These samples eagerly awaited by the laboratories would not only ''make the ice talk'' but fulfil the purpose of this formidable scientific adventure.
